    =The Warwick Dolphin Club=

Hey guys, I thinks its about time I started this club for us dolphin players.

Heres a couple shots of mine.

Its a nice bass. The only one I didn't actually order. I got it off a private BIN ebayer in June. Has awesome low action without any buzz. Still a close second to the Streamer Stage II.
    Basses:
    Triumph upright 5-string 07
    Streamer Stage II 5-string 06
    Corvette fretless 4-string 03
    Dolphin Pro 1 5-string 99
    Infinity LTD 2000 5-string

Damn. Everytime I see a Dolphin I get such a huuuge GAS. A club for Dolphin-players won't be healthy for my economics

PS: Nice one you got there, Pepper Wadman.

Thanks a lot bass bro. When I bought it I din't really know there was such a thing as broadnecks. I just saw it in the local classifieds, and instant gas came to me, probably from wanting one since I first saw one in an advertisement like 15 years ago, but never seeing one in any shops ever.

The only thing bad now is that the spacing felt SO RIGHT that my other 5'er has been put in his case and tucked under the sofa, as it has too narrow string spacing and it was hindering my RH technique an I hadn't realized it! More power to the Dolphin!

I bought it off of CeeJ, a fellow forumer. The picture he took still had a black bridge, but he has since put the platinum bridge back on it. I bought platinum dolphin inlay knobs which I have already received. I also get a wood panelled flight case in the deal - all for $2400.00! :D

Here is a mock up I made from CeeJ's photos, showing a platinum bridge and the dolphin knobs. Once I receive the bass I'll post live pics:

It's like the one in this mid '90s brochure:

Yes it has red side dot LEDs and you can string it as a 4 or an 8 whenever you want. It's definitely world class and very rare! $3k is a more than fair price as it probably lists for close to $10k and it's in perfect brand new shape! Plus, it's purple FLAKE - very NICE!!!

So this was CeeJ's? He's having some hard times right now and needs our support. I'm glad to be getting his boire bass. If I had $3k and knew it was his, I might have gone for the purple 8!

I don't know if he wants anything to be public or not, so I'll leave it up to him to answer that. I respect him and appreciate the sale of the bass. I just would say those who pray, pray for CeeJ - he's a true Warwick brother!

WOW! A dolphin club! I have a HUGE Dolphin gas . How does the all ovangkoal sound? I heard that they sound more brighter than older ones and they have less growl, is it real?
Any possibilitties of lesent some sample :D ?

That custom Dolphin is wonderful! Really classy . Does the different woods (maple?) alterate a lot the sound?

Yeah, it sounds different from an ovangkol body. Brighter, very defined.

Disclaimer: I'm not insulting warwick or you here.

    With that said,

I'm really unimpressed with the Dolphin I've tried at a local shop. The bass sounded a thin, to be honest. I picked it up because I though it was an interesting bass and warwicks are usually growly and impressive.

Is that normal or was it low batteries as I suspect?

  32. #32
Batteries, strings, amp. Could be any number of things at the shop, but whatever it is, it isn't doing it justice. Dolphins are incredible basses

True. My precision sounds 10x better with a fresh set of d'addario pro-steels. I have to say the Corvettes I played really impressed me, especially the workmanship on them. Therefore it must be some other factor.

Besides, the Dolphins look really cool :D.

I'd really like to try a streamer bass now along with a better dolphin.

I dont know much about the Dolphin Pro 1,but I'll see if i can remember what I've learned.
It was introduced in the late 80's,maybe 87.
The first models had a wenge/wenge neck & boire body.Supplies of boire became limited, some say due to a civil war in the Congo region of Africa,so the body wood changed to ovangkol in the early 90's with some zebrano models along the way.The neck wood changed to ovangkol around 98/99,but the fingerbaord remained wenge.
*dont quote me on this, alot of it might be incorrect.

Here's a mid '90's brochure. In fact, up to mid '98, these were hand made boire bodies with wenge/zebrano necks and platinum hardware. The in late '98 to today, they've been CNC machined ovegkol bodies and necks, with some rare maple body/wenge necks produced before the current models:

I've heard that Warwick produced a very limited number of bird's eye maple Dolphins like mine. I've only seen three that I can recall. I have one and another member has two. Rumored that they were made for Stefan Lessard from the Dave Matthew's Band. You see Stefan playing one in the "Don't Drink the Water" music video.
