I think that happens to all of us from time to time. I'm pretty active here, but I've had those moments and know the feeling...

But you do have a nice Streamer there and we are still waiting for the extra pics you said you're going to post. I love seeing fresh-posted Streamers! Stand tall and proud - you're in the club! :D

    Here it is!

    First, before the cleaning proccess.
Look how lifeless the bass was.

    Look at this cloth!
    Look at this board!

After all the cleaning and waxing:

Andy, that bass cleaned up very nice. WOW!

What did you use to clean the white buildup off the fingerboard?

It really came out nice and shines worthy of a Warwick! Good to know it's in good hands now! :D

Andy, that's a great job. Is it a maple neck on this bass?

OK, girls & boys. Here it is. I know it's not one of your fancy SS I's and SS II's and CS's...
but it's my first (definitely not last) Warwick and you gotta love it!

Thanks! Saw it on eBay a few years ago and just had to get it.

Unfortunately the original onboard EQ turned into an oscillator about a year ago, so there's no way to "originalize" it anymore. I currently have an EMG-MMCS pickup running at 18 V with the EMG in-box passive controls (vol + tone) in the bass. It seems to slice through any mix in this configuration!

Edit: Tasty LX you have there! Nice flame on the maple body.

Not fancy? That's a sweet AA (or is that AAA? ) flame body you got there and the LX is basically the BO version of an SSI. I'm a new P-pickup convert, so if I didn't have my recently aquired SSI, I would have gone head-over-heels for that bass of yours! The LX BO means you will get a slightly faster attack - great for slapping and funk, which is what I wanted a Streamer for in the first place. In fact, my first choice was to get a natural maple body SSI or LX (actually, I wanted a CS "all blonde" with a maple fingerboard as well), to replace my all-blonde Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. I'm actually hooked on my blue stain SSI now, thanks to the high polish glass finish and the gold hardware (what a looker!), but when it came to my choice of a Streamer, it could only be a SSI or an LX 4 with P-pup and a nice flame body. Agreed that you need more Warwicks (who doesn't?), but you couldn't have had a better start to get the ball rolling! Just think - your first bass (whether it's first ever, or first Warwick) is something special - and yours is one to cherish proudly! Good job! :D

yeah I know it's an incredible bass. Just a bit more modest than some other Streamers
My impressions after 4 days of playing it:
comfort and playability are superb! Warwick neck isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I definitely love it. I also admire the sound - especially unplugged... I don't think I'm a great fan of MEC pups and electronics though. Not going into details now, I'm thinking about swapping it for passive BassLines Quarterpounders and passive controls 2V, 2T. What do you think?

    Thanks, man!

I just used lemon oil with a few cotton tips.
Let me tell you one thing, even the tone was a different after the cleaning.

    I'm not joking. 8)

    It's a cherry/maple/wenge bass.

    The tone is awesome!

Well, I love MEC pickups but I find their active EQs to be hissy compared to others.

That said, I'm still swapping out my pups for passive noisefree Bartolini pups and tossing the active EQ for a passive Vol, Balance, and two Tone controls (one for each pup), so I have to agree with your decision! :D

Cleaning up a grimey bass will make a noticeable difference to the sound, similar to how changing dead strings to new strings brings britness and "life" to a bass. Natural wood needs to "breathe" and "drink" so the pores need to be cleaned and nurished with oils and wax. This affects a wood's tone. The fingerboard especially has an effect cuz that's where the strings make contact and vibration. They will either "ring" or "thud" against the fingerboard, depending on how dirty the board is...

If the bridge and/or nut has a buildup in the saddles or grooves, it will adversely affect the string's transmition and sustain through the body and neck as well.

You have definitely done a good job and have been rewarded in looks and tone for your caring touch!

It's funny, how something so simple and obvious gets away from me. That's why I love this place. Ever since I used Howard's Feed n Wax on my Thumb NT fretboard, I had little areas of white where the wax dried in the grain of the wenge. I tried cleaning it with lemon oil and a polish cloth, but when the oil dried, the wax was still there.

I've used cotton tips for all kinds of things, but it never occurred to me to use them on my fingerboard. I just finished cleaning the Thumb NT fingerboard with lemon oil and Q-tips and WOW - the cotton gets down in the grain and it cleaned up nicely!

Thanks for reminding me of the simple things in life that handle the big jobs! :D

oh yes, Vol, Bal, 2xTone would be even nicer! I love Balance pot (as compared to two Volume ones)!

A lot of bass players like two volumes because you get more output from each pickup when both are on, but I like a balance and single volume so that I can turn up or down with a quick turn of the knob.

The separate tones are Florin's idea. They will allow greater tonal versatility. One example is to cut the highs on the neck pickup, while keeping the tone up on the bridge, then blend them with the balance knob. Cool idea! :D

yup, that's a switch the pervious owner put in when he installed line6 pickups and electronic.

I have re-installed the orginal pickups and electronic after I got the bass, and just left the switch there.

Nice one Andy! That 93 streamer bolt on is an absolue gem, and looks alarmingly like the big 5 string brother of my wonderstick!!!

I've had it eight years now, and I'm still finding myself amazed at the things it does.

Congrats again on finding it, and I hope its as good to you as mine's been to me!
