    Ooooooohhhh,

welcome to the Thumb club man. 8) The almighty 6 string Thumb sure kicks butt big time.

P.S. "Akira" is a dude's name in Japanese.

'Akira is a common Japanese given name. It means "bright", "intelligent", or "clear". There are several Kanji for Akira. One popular Kanji is 明. Though Akira is normally used to name males, it can be a female name as well. This name is also an anglicized female version of the Scottish male name Acair, meaning "anchor". While in Nigeria, Akira is used as a unisex name.'

Courtesy of Wikipedia! Thanks for the welcome! I love the tone on her, but the sound transmission is so pure that any sloppiness in my playing comes through the amp too... I'll have to tighten up to get the most out.

    Ahhhh,

the name is as intriguing as the bass. Sweeeeet. Yeah, you can hear pretty much every flaw caused by the player, but this will only make you a better player in the end. It's pretty funny though, to name a 6 string Thumb "anchor".

I have a knack for doing that And now you come to mention the 'anchor' connection, the name seems somewhat apt!

The other night Dragosh and I had the opportunity and pleasure of meeting one another and to take some nice pictures for the Thumb Club.
We had a gig at a local club, as opening acts for our friends Guerrillas
Dragosh and his band rocked the joint, I must say !

Hopefully this is just the first of many Thumb Club Member Meetings !

Dragosh and his '96 thumb + me and my '08 thumb

    Dragosh and my '08 + me and Dragosh's '96

check out the grain on the '96

I was struggling with the weight, frickin' heavy beauties

    the bathroom shot

aside from the obvious neck and fretboard wood differences we found several others.
First off - the body on the older thumb is smaller, more rounded, the upper horn is flatter and the back is slightly thinner. The headstock is also smaller on the '96 and the neck is bulkier, thicker.
The '96 thumb is heavier , which is kinda weird 'cuz I would've guessed that it would be lighter because of the smaller body - but the extra weight probably comes from the wenge neck and maybe the 18 V electronics.

Anyways, unfortunately we didn't have time to do an in-depth sound comparison - but we both conluded that both are amazing instruments.

That's cool to see you guys meet up with your Thumb 6ers! They look so good together. And your conclusion was spot on: '96 or '08, "both are amazing instruments."

It's pretty cool, At first I noticed the controls didn't do as much as the 2 band (The 2 band seems to be a bit more sensitive). But now that I'm use to it I really like it. Having the mid control is great, And when playing live I can really change my tone around without having to walk back and mess with my amp.

When I order my CS it will definantly have a 3 band mec in it.

Now I'm trying to think of some more mods to do to the bass

My First Warwick (It's a Thumb; his name is Mr. Brimley)

I've been blabbering all over the place on this and other forums about this bass, but these are the facts: (1) This is my first Warwick; (2) It's an '02 Thumb NT 5 (which I bought "new" 5 days ago); (3) Can't be 100% certain (received paperwork for wrong bass), but believe it to be bubinga pommele body w/ 5-piece ovangkol neck w/ Ekango veneers and ebony fingerboard and (4) his name is "Wilford Brimley" (don't ask, it just seemed right.)

Those are quick'n'dirty pix I took mainly so I could get someone to help ID the type of wood for me. I may end up exchanging him for an '08 in a couple of weeks (warranty exchange for a broken nut, of all things)-- but I have a hard time convincing myself that a replacement instrument would give me the same "warm tinglies" that Mr. Brimley here does...

If Mr. Brimley turns out to be permanent; I'll pull these pix down and replace them with images that aren't quite so sterile.

Congrats on the new Thumb mate.& sorry to hear your nut broke, but it only takes 5 minutes to replace it to the new just a nut 3.Get your dealer to supply you with a new nut & all ya need is super glue to replace it.There's an online guide for changing nuts here,
    http://www.warwick.de/modules/infos/...0739&cl=DE

**edit. You dont have strap locks because your bass's strap pins wont accept them.Your 02 Thumb has conical strap pins, like my 03.

Heres a pick or two of my 97 custom thumb oredered in 1997.

Its a 97 NT 5 stringer, custom bits are, "Curly" bubinga body, Basslines pickups & preamp, Ying yang inlays & full wenge fingerboard.

A lot of the custom features are just options these days, but back in its day it was a ripper! Still the best "Funk bass" I have ever owned!!

Personally I think its one of the better models before they went to the Jan2 & pao fingerboards on later basses.

    Cheers
